Although this was a bottom v top of the table clash anyone who thought it would be easy for Parley had not seen the Lions recently. Lions had been unlucky in their last few games only losing 3-2 so went into this match with great confidence.
The team, Sally, David, Richard, Maxine, Paul and Tom struggled initially to get to grips with the terrain which was very different from our own, consequently it was Lions who went into early leads in both games. In the first triple Maxine, Paul and Tom played some accurate petanque but still went down 13-9 although it did hurt when a coche was trailed back to give Lions 4 points towards the end of the game.
Meanwhile Richard, Sally and David held the Lions at bay showing some real grit to creep over the line and take us to one game all after the triples.
The doubles was a different story. Paul and Tom were held to one point per end but grafted eventually to win 13-11 while David and Richard managed to lose a 12-11 lead to go down 13-12. Meanwhile Maxine found some form on terrain and began enjoying long coches. With Sally shooting well as illustrated by two spot carreauxs and three others a long match was brought to an end when Lions couldn't beat Maxine's point at just under 10m to win the game. Maxine's first ever win in a competitive match. Well done Maxine who shares our player of the match this week for that last point alone with Sally..
Looking forward to playing Lions again later in the season.
